At work, when you go above and beyond in support of other work groups -- or sometimes even your own -- they like to reward you with these points (sort of like Disney Dollars) that you can spend in the company store. You get a nice round number in points and the company pays the taxes on the award (because it is ultimately cash, right?). It's a nice perk. I've used them in the past to get things like iPods and cameras and my Nintendo DS.
Now that we're in Durham and are busily renovating a house though, the priorities have shifted. What I really wanted to get was an XBOX 360 (I really want a wii but the company store doesn't have wii). But, being prudent, I cashed in all my points this morning for Lowe's gift cards.
In the last six months, I've done a lot of special projects for people across our group and outside of it, and been lucky enough to have been a part of a number of groups who were recognized for the sort of exceptional contribution that garners points.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank any of you who may be reading. You are why we'll be able to get the nice front loading washer and dryer... Leaning towards the Whirlpool Ultra Capacity Plus Duet. Thoughts? Leave them in comments.
