Words

I've been inspired by lots of folks this winter who seem to be moving away from the words on their blogs in place of pictures. Truly, it is a time of reflection. Shorter days, the end of the year, proximity to family, everything moving indoors (more or less)... But my camera is not nearby (though it is loaded with pictures I will post when it is at hand) and I am in the mood for 770 (the number of this post, not KOB A.M. in New Mexico).

Since we got home, Baby Cat has been practically lap-bound. In fact, she's even been lured away from the heater vent a time or two, such was the depth of her loneliness while we were away. But she did have some company; Ed and Margie dropped in on her daily, to pet and talk and feed her her snacktime.

Today we took them (our neighbors) a bottle of nice French Champagne and some candy for their time, and ended up having a nice Tea with Margie -- the first time we've been invited into their home, and the first time we've "broken bread" (cookies and oranges actually) with Margie. It was very pleasant and we will do it again. As I said to Margie, one of the things we cherish in our lives is good neighbors. We had amazing, wonderful, fabulous neighbors in Huntington Beach, and we are thankful for Ed and Margie too.

This has the makings of a newsy post -- the wine this evening was heady and I could go on and on. But I won't. There will be more in the coming days. With Pictures.

For now, Thank you Mike for your Christmas wish (text) -- it was received but not returned. I apologize for that.

Hello to the folks in Texas. We hope you are having a nice time together and we miss you.

Wishing you well in Jackson, Dad. I hope you can get back to Rwanda soon -- I know this is your wish.

And to all the folks every where else, we love you and think of you often. (And Amber, the number of pairs of socks you gave us is amazing! You are too sweet. :)

Paige is calling from upstairs (she's not, but I can hear her in my head. There's an allegory in there somewhere, or something. Or it's the wine.)

Hope you had a great New Year and holiday season!

Yup.....many great things to come in 2010.

As far as the egg and dairy-free meatballs......

I used some packaged meatballs. This was a quick lunch after a rainy morning hike so I didn’t make them myself.

When I have made them myself, I went the chickpea route using the same ingredients and steps as in this recipe (but rolling them into balls instead of flat): http://www.vegangrub.com/?p=29
